Grand Bassin in Mauritius

The story of Grand Bassin, also known as Ganga Talao, begins with Pandit Jhummon Giri Gossagne Nepal, a Hindu priest from the village of Triolet in northern Mauritius. In 1897, he had a profound dream in which he envisioned a holy lake linked to the sacred River Ganges in India.

During that time, road networks were sparse and travel challenging. Undeterred, the priest set out to search for the sacred lake he had seen in his dream. His journey ultimately led him to Grand Bassin, where he discovered a lake that matched the vision he had experienced.
